C-Shaped Steel Purlin

A C-shaped steel purlin is a type of structural steel beam that has a C-shaped cross-section. It's a horizontal support member used in the construction of buildings, primarily to support the roof and walls. These purlins are part of the secondary framing system and are typically used in pre-engineered metal buildings, warehouses, and carports. They are made from high-tensile, galvanized steel, which gives them excellent strength and corrosion resistance.

What is a C-Shaped Steel Purlin?

A C-Shaped Steel Purlin (or C-purlin) is a cold-formed steel member used as a secondary structural component in building construction. Its primary function is to support the roof deck or wall sheeting and transfer the loads to the primary structural frame (like rafters, trusses, or beams).

The "C" shape refers to its distinctive cross-section, which resembles a squared-off letter "C". They are manufactured by roll-forming flat sheets of high-strength galvanized or coated steel into their final shape.

Specification Range

Cross-section height (H): 80mm to 300mm (commonly used: 100mm to 250mm)

Flange width (B): 40mm to 80mm

Edge flange (R): 10mm to 20mm

Plate thickness (t): 1.5mm to 3.0mm (cold-formed)

Length (L): 4m to 12m (Customizable)

Material: Q235B, Q355B, G550 (high-strength galvanized steel)

Surface treatment: Black material, galvanized (Z120 to Z275), spray-coated corrosion protection

Features

Simple shape: The cross-section is shaped like the English letter “C,” with a symmetrical structure that facilitates installation.

Easy to process: Can be continuously rolled using a cold-forming machine, with lengths cut according to design specifications.

Moderate strength: Suitable for structures with medium to small spans, providing stable load-bearing capacity.

Simple connection: Easy to connect with roof panels, wall panels, and main structures.

Applications

Roof and wall purlins for light steel structure factories

Auxiliary components such as door and window frames, beams, and brackets

Can be used for roof truss systems in carports, warehouses, and small buildings.

Production Standards
GB/T 6725-2017 (General Standard for Cold-Formed Steel)
Selection Recommendations

For roofs with a small slope and medium span: C-shaped steel purlins are recommended.

For roofs with a large slope or requiring overlapping construction: Z-shaped steel purlins are recommended.
